Must-Have Monday: Erica Lyons Jewelry

by Jennifer James

Every time I travel I get compliments on my jewelry. Always. I nearly exclusively wear Erica Lyons jewelry because I absolutely love her pieces. They are big, bulky, colorful, and unforgettable.

I have tons of her stuff and plan to get more this year as her pieces are always on sale! I don’t know, but I’m certainly not complaining.

I live in the south and buy her pieces from Belk. You can find them at Belk.com and she sells her jewelry at Macy’s as well.

I always feel confident when wearing Erica Lyons jewelry. Her pieces are big enough to be well-noticed, but not too big that your face and neck are overwhelmed from the bling. I typically buy a necklace, bracelet, and earring set at a steep sale for about $50.00. Not too shabby! I have my eye on this necklace next.

Travel Thursday: Why I Love Purple Passport

by Jennifer James

The other day I was scanning the wires and ran across Purple Passport, a brand-new site for the luxury traveler. It spoke to me immediately! As someone who travels extensively I want to know the real story about accommodations and spas before I ever book my reservations. The women behind Purple Passport don’t sugar-coat their reviews, which helps me tremendously as a travel consumer. It also helps when I need to look up a luxury hotel where I will be staying courtesy of a brand partner. It’s always fun to take a sneak peek before I get to my destination.

Purple Passport only has two cities in their arsenal now — LA and London — but several more from New York to Miami to Chicago are currently in the works. I appreciate that not only can you find candid reviews about luxury travel, you can also share your experiences with their team. I sent in a comment about one of their featured LA hotels and they incorporated a portion of what I wrote  into their review. You can also upload photos as they will also use them on their site, with attribution, of course.

I cannot wait to see Purple Passport grow. It is a rare occasion when I absolutely flip over a web site, but this one really resonated with me so much so that I’m blogging about them. Now, that’s a great site!

Wellness Wednesday: Water to the Rescue

by Jennifer James

Yesterday I traveled down here to the North Carolina coast (about four hours from where I live) to visit Ocean Isle Inn. So far everything has been lovely. It’s the off-season and no one is around. I always love soaking up tourist destinations once the tourists have actually gone and the locals rule the day once again.

Since I travel quite a bit I wanted to share with you what I do to avoid sodas when I’m on the go. Now, don’t get me wrong, I will definitely indulge in a Coke every now and then, but my goal is to drink as much water as possible when I travel to keep myself hydrated. Also, drinking plenty of water keeps my face from breaking out.

Here’s what I’ve been drinking today.

I drink a lot of Perrier at home, but I always make sure to have some when I travel. My preference is Perrier Lemon, but if I can’t find it I will settle for original Perrier. Because of its bubbles, drinking Perrier greatly reminds me of drinking soda without the sugar or even sugar substitutes. A little note about flavor: Perrier tastes far better in a glass bottle. Even though Perrier now comes in a plastic bottle and is convenient, you don’t get the same crisp taste.

This morning I bought a bottle of MetroMint. I’ve never had it before, but it caught my attention in the water aisle. The label says it contains purified water and mint. I love the simplicity of their ingredients. It also tasted extremely refreshing and clean! I’ll be looking for MetroMint when I get home and will also try their other mint flavors like spearmint and lemonmint.

And, finally, I also bought FIJI water. Why? I like the square bottle. How superficial is that? The water doesn’t taste any different that its competitors, I just like that the bottle is unique. I also like that they are a member of 1% for the Planet, but I had to discover that on their web site.

Thus far my day has been filled with a lot of water and one cup of coffee. Surely I will drink a soda before I head back home on Friday. The good thing is I won’t be guzzling bottles and bottles of it.
