Tech Thursday — An eReader After My Heart

While tech enthusiasts are arguing whether the Nexus One is better than the iPhone or trying to figure out what Apple will announce to the world next week I am salivating over the Que Reader. Oh, yes! It is beautiful and I want it!

The Que Reader was unveiled at CES this year and while I wasn’t there this eReader seems to be on a lot of people’s tech lists since its unveiling.

I have read a lot about the Que reader and am thoroughly impressed by how easily you can read the newspaper on it to how many documents you can store in it. I love that it is so thin, has Wifi and, get this, you can also read books on it. Heaven!

The only thing stopping me from buying the Que Reader is the price: $649 for 4GB and $799 for 8GB. Ouch!

Wellness Wednesday: Valerie Waters, Raisins, and the ValSlide

Before the beginning of the year I attended a webcast hosted by Hollywood trainer to the stars, Valerie Waters, and California Raisins. I learned quite a bit about wellness and exercise in a short period of time. Since I was tweeting during the webcast I am going to share some of my tweets instead of rehashing everything I already published. There is some great exercise and wellness tidbits here from Valerie.

Half baggie of almonds and raisins is @valeriewaters go-to snack.

Eat real food, not food products says @valeriewaters. Avoid fake sugar and ingredients you can’t pronounce.

“You’re only one meal away from eating better,” says @valeriewaters

Book recommendation from @valeriewaters: End of Overeating http://bit.ly/cBaS4

You want to have periods of exercising hard and resting for interval training.

Sometimes @valeriewaters will use splash of fruit juice and Perrier instead of diet soda.

Exercise so you can participate in life, not just so you can get in skinny jeans says @valeriewaters

By the way, the California Raisins team sent a really thoughtful care package after the webcast and in it, among other things, was a pair of ValSlides. I want to tell you right now that those little suckers will.hurt.you!

While the ValSlide looks pretty easy to use, they really work your core, legs, and arms amazingly well. Whenever I use them I can barely walk the next day and I’m sore all over. They are quite simply amazing!

Foodie Tuesday: An App for Strawberry Lovers

I really love innovative ideas. In fact, I thrive on them. That’s why I was intrigued by the California Strawberry Commission’s free Strawberries app. If you’re addicted to your iPod Touch or iPhone like I am you probably rely on it for much of your daily information. When you are looking for unique and innovative strawberry recipes and nutrition look no further than this app. There are over 50 recipes for you to share and enjoy.

What I particularly love about this app is the California Strawberry Commission used recipes and photos from some of the best food bloggers on the Net to provide a robust collection of strawberry recipes that don’t disappoint. I love that! It further gives legitimacy to those of us who share our expertise and knowledge on a daily basis through our blogs. Even though I haven’t tried any of these recipes yet I am fascinated by the creativity and thought put into each one. You won’t find any mundane strawberry and cream or Angel Food Cake topped with glazed strawberry recipes in this app.

A few recipes that caught my eye and that I will definitely be making this spring and summer when I can find local strawberries are Strawberry and Feta Salad by Shiny Cooking (http://www.shinycooking.com) and Strawberry Tofu Chopped Salad by Sprouted Kitchen (http://www.sproutedkitchen.com).

Each recipe is attributed to the blogger with their blog link and blog name. Additionally you will find a full list of ingredients, preparation instructions, a recipe photo, and the ability to share the recipe across the web on Facebook, Twitter or via email.
