Katherine Heigl Graces REDBOOK’s November Issue

by Jennifer James

A couple of weeks ago I attended a blogger brunch at the REDBOOK office in Manhattan. Admittedly I have not been a huge magazine reader of late, but after hearing the clear vision about the new REDBOOK I am excited for them! As a web creator I understand how exhilarating it is to go in a new direction and try innovative things with content and design. That’s exactly what REDBOOK is doing! The editors and creative team are finding their own voice again and speaking directly to moms like you and me. I like that!

Katherine Heigle, new mom and red hot actress, graces the November 2010 REDBOOK cover. Doesn’t she look stunning? I love her as a brunette.

On her husband, Josh Kelley: “He’s a great dad. I didn’t expect it: He’s such a guy . . .I adore him, I can’t imagine being with another man, but he can be very self-absorbed. Not in an egomaniacal way, just kind of in his own head and unfocused on anything other than his own stuff. So I was really surprised by how on top of it and how connected he is."

As you probably know, Heigle recently adopted a daughter, Naleigh. “When she was finally in my arms, I was so relieved…now I got to hold her and smell her and know her.” “We still talk about having biological children as well—I’m not ruling anything out . . . Adoption has been a part of my life and a part of my family, so it was how I wanted to start. It felt natural and right to me.”

And as a popular working actress, Heigle discusses balancing motherhood and work. I used to get really miffed when I read articles about balancing life as a working mother, but now that I travel all of the time and own my own business, I totally get it. I love Katherine’s approach: “Most of Life As We Know It is a complete blur. I had just become a mom. I still don’t necessarily always know what I am doing, and I certainly didn’t then . . .I was all over the place. I was really trying too hard. I was completely bonkers.” “If I spread myself too thin, I’m not a good actor, I’m not a good mother, and I’m just really high-strung—and everybody hates me.”
